People engage in therapy for many reasons but often it is because they wish to change some aspect of their lives or themselves. Generally this is due to some form of discomfort, unhappiness or unease occurring in relationships either with self or others, or possibly an unexpected life event causing upset or trauma.
The goal of therapy is for that person to understand why they are uncomfortable and make positive changes in order to move forward in life and be happy.
Therapy is for everyone. There is currently shame attached to the notion of asking for help. Possibly this could be due to our cultural conditioning that we should just, 'Keep calm and carry on' and 'big boys don't cry'. The truth is, we all need someone to talk to and share our experiences with and sometimes there are things that we just can't say to our friends and families for many reasons. This is where therapists come in! We are trained to listen and understand your needs when others can't, and will help you work through any issues and problems you have without judgement.
Therapy is usually delivered face to face in a formal counselling room setting. Up until march 2020 approximately 97% of therapy was delivered this way, but due to the pandemic it literally switched overnight to being provided digitally or by telephone. I have a counselling office but mostly provide therapy online either by telephone or secure video call.
There is no time scale or limit applied to therapy as it depends on the individual and the issues or problems they wish to work through and resolve. I have worked with people who have felt better after a few sessions whereas others have maintained therapy for much longer periods of time. I would recommend a minimum of ten sessions with a view to continuously review progress with each client to see where they are in the process. Ending therapy is a goal to work towards.
Therapy fees are £65 per session up to 5pm and £75 thereafter. Sessions are 60 minutes. Sometimes clients prefer longer sessions (75-90 mins) for different reasons and this will be discussed during initial consultation. Fees for these sessions will be adjusted appropriately. Concessions are also available and will be discussed at initial consultation.
